Meet Dr. Schlott
Dr. Benjamin J. (BJ) Schlott graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a bachelor’s of science degree in Biology. Dr. Schlott went on to receive his doctorate in dental medicine (DMD) from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU-SDM) in 2004. Following dental training at SIU-SDM, Dr. Schlott completed a fellowship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then completed Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency training at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. During this time he obtained his medical training, MD degree and completed a general surgery internship from the University of Florida. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Schlott accepted a position at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO in 2011. He practiced in Missouri for 2 years.
In 2013 Dr. Schlott accepted a fellowship in oral/head and neck oncologic surgery and reconstruction at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Under the instruction of Dr. Eric Carlson, the fellowship focused on operative management of head and neck tumors and associated reconstructive treatment. In 2014, Dr. Schlott, accepted a faculty position at his alma mater the University of Florida. There he worked and taught as a clinical associate professor in the College of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Gainesville, FL. During part of this time Dr. Schlott served as the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program director. His desire to move back closer to his family brought him back to the southern Illinois region. Dr. Schlott is a Diplomat to the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons(ABOMS), a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons(AAOMS) a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ISOMS), the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (FSOMS) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Outside the office, Dr. Schlott enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and traveling.
