Meet Dr. Pandarakalam
Dr. Cyril Pandarakalam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Dental Medicine at the School of Dental Medicine, Southern Illinois University (SIU-SDM). He graduated from Bangalore University, India, with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 1999. After a few years of general dental practice in India, he went on to receive a Masters in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (MDS) in 2007 from Calicut University, Kerala, India. During his graduate studies and later as a Senior Lecturer in KMCT Dental College, Calicut, he taught pre-doctoral dental students. In 2008, Dr. Pandarakalam started a dual specialty Graduate program in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine in Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, California and received his graduate certificate in June 2010.
He worked in Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, USC, for six months as a Problem-Based Learning facilitator for pre-doctoral dental students. Dr. Pandarakalam joined SIU-SDM as a full-time tenure-track faculty in December 2010. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and American Board of Oral Medicine. He conducts research, has published several articles, teaches pre-doctoral and graduate dental students and does clinical practice. He is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Oral Medicine, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Board of Oral Medicine and American Board of Orofacial Pain.
Dr. Pandarakalam has a part time practice in Illinois Youth Center, Harrisburg, Illinois. In his spare time, Dr. Pandarakalam enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, reading and working out at the gym.
